The Joy of Cooking

Imagine yourself the host of your own cooking show on cable television.

While you and your producer press on with show-prep discussions, a bevy of assistants have already scoured the local super markets and specialty shops gathering all of the raw ingredients you require to create today's entree. Your Sous-chefs have already instructed their assistants on the amounts of each ingredient to clean, slice and/or chop so that all you need do is reach out and add each ingredient to the pot.

As show time approaches, you schmooze with the audience, take a sip of wine and start bringing the pre-cleaned, pre-cut, pre-measured ingredients together in a whirlwind of flair and instruction. The audience sits rapt by the ease of your cooking technique.

Finally, your cooking is complete and, to a crescendo of applause, the entree is distributed and devoured by your grateful audience.

"Cut. That's a wrap everyone. See you next week!" you say as you turn toward the exit and to your awaiting limo.

The dirty pots, utensils and dishes as well as the entire kitchen area are efficiently cleaned and set up by your cleanup crew for your next broadcast.

Compare your "Rock-Star Chef" performance with your own as you plan, shop, prepare, cook and clean up after serving dinner for you and your family most nights.

We suggest this tale demonstrates a fundamental fact of culinary life:

“Joy of Cooking increases in direct proportion to the amount of meal assembly help that you have.”

Short of going out to eat:

The more help you can get planning, shopping, slicing, dicing and cleaning up;

the more enjoyable, stress-free and downright fun cooking at home can be.
