March menu comes in like a lion!

This months menus is very exciting. Can I recommend the Garlicky Pork Cutlets with Prosciutto...you will have a great time pounding the pork chops and Prosciutto together. Then the cooking is so simple and the sauce is so good. My husband was looking around the kitchen for more. Classic DinnerSmith, simple and delicious. Or the Chicken Marsala? Again great flavors and simple cooking at home. Yummy sauce and we send you home with the pasta.

The Cuban pork and black beans is that home cooking taste of someones gramma who is called abuela. This is the dish for cold rainy days, so filling and good with the taste of the peppers, not hot but full flavored. Imagine Abuelita standing by the stove and stirring in the love. But this is DinnerSmith so this dish cooks all day in the crockpot. It is great with white rice, I know it's not Spanish style, or bread to sop up the juices.

This months Mulligan Stew is different our usual stew: it has a darker flavor and not as sweet. The only sweetness comes from the Guinness stout which really is not so sweet. The carrots and potatoes are familiar and we are continuing to use that really great beef that we always use. BTW our stews do not need to be cooked for hours and hours which is the case when the beef is tough.

I got a surprise visit from someone from my childhood today and the reminiscing turned to the Saturday afternoons in the family kitchen. My Dad finished his work at the hospital and would bring some fresh bread or cheese to add the late lunch my mom would make for the multitudes. The kitchen fireplace got a roaring fire in the cooler seasons, nine months out of the year in that part of the country. Before relaxing with a book in front of the fire , Dad took time to talk to some kid or another. Then we would eat some great food like giant pressed sandwiches or welsh rarebit. I am grateful to have such warm memories of my family and great food. We spent a couple hours talking about the food we have back then and how that affected hers and my cooking styles today.

Thanks to my partners who were so patient while I strolled down memory lane. Because, as you may know, we are busy these days. Stop by, see whats cooking and tell us about your childhood kitchen memories.
