Family time

Family time means something special in our house. Family time is a designated time we set aside to eat and do something together, usually watch a movie or something on TIVO or play a board game. It is un-inturuptable time. Sometimes we stop the movie and just talk. Sometimes we have an activity, like listening to my son play the cello and talking about his music, also we have made desserts or wrapped presents.

Having a DinnerSmith meal makes family time easier on me. Just pop in the oven and take a time out for myself. When it comes time for all four of to spend time together, I don't feel so overwhelmed. I can take of me AND them.

Gotta go! The movie is cued up.

Making it easy....

A primary focus of the DnnerSmith crew is making life easier. We provide our customers with everything they need to make mealtime easier, cheaper and faster. When Fran's husband, Peter, sent this video, I knew I had to share it with a wider audience. Eggs are nutritious but can be a pain to deal with. Enjoy!

Partnership

On New Years Day, folks make a lot of resolutions, based on their goals or dreams. Also there is a tendency to look back at the past year with gratitude. That's me: looking back at the past year and forward to the New Year. I recognized recently that the success of DinnerSmith is all about partnership. Without Fran and Sharon, DinnerSmith would have been a good idea; instead of a growing business serving hundreds of families.

I am a night person, cleaning and organizing doing paperwork late into the night. Fran is a morning person, arriving early in the day, getting ready for the afternoon customers and making meals for pick up. Sharon's research ad passion for new recipes keeps our menu exciting and fresh. Also she has become a terrific butcher.

At home, my family takes on many household chores, leaving me more time to keep those long hours at the store.

Whenever I hear people talking about new years resolutions, I feel compelled to shout " Get help! Get partners! It makes all the difference!"

Working every day

When we were first building DinnerSmith, progress was slow and I did not always go to the store every day. My Dad came for a visit during that period and he said "let's go to the store, even though nothing seems to be happening." He told me of his own beginning, starting a surgical practice in a small upstate city. Every day he would go to his office; there were days when he watched the squirrels play on the lawn as he sat and waited for the referrals and patients to come. As a new doctor in his early thirties , he was committed to keep his office hours, believing that the practice would grow. Eventually he had a tremendous career, raising seven children very comfortably.

So today on New Year's Day, I went to the store to check things out and do a few things as I have done almost every day for the last eighteen months.

The mission of DinnerSmith is more than great food: we are changing families lives thru the gift of time and thru the nurturing of great family mealtimes. Join us this year: we will be there every day.
