Ravioli ....coming in September

Sharon and Fran tested a great ravioli made with crab meat and goat cheese. Sharon and I had them for lunch today topped with a marinara sauce made with red wine and simple spices. Very nice and light. We think that they will be a big hit and fun to make. They don't take a lot of time to cook or eat though....LOL.

The other thing we are working on is fund-raisers. We will be contributing to the National Girls Night Out to Combat Domestic Abuse. That will be a great event at XOMA salon and Spa in Short Hills on October 4. We have details and sign-ups that we can email to you. Let us know at info@dinnersmith.com.
Also we are participating in the Women Build Habitat for Humanity Gala on October 9 at Temple Shari Tefilo in South Orange. We will have info in the store and in the newsletter about this great organization as they prepare to build their third house in Newark's Central Ward.
We are also donating a gift basket to The Dayton High School in Springfield in support of their Project Graduation, the big senior graduation night party. Let us know if your group is raising money for a project: we would love to help!

Ok back to getting ready for the September menu which has great new things and some favorites, too.

The End of Summer

This summer has been a real education. The best part has been meeting so many new people. People that live in our town. Young moms, singles, teachers from the schools our kids went to, older people that still love to cook and so many more.

When Mary, Sharon and I decided to open a little meal prep studio in our small commuter town near NYC, we knew that it would be a lot of work. But the surprise was that we had so much fun. My favorite part is the research and development.....yummmmm. But after a few months, I am glad to see so many of our customers whenever I walk around our village. People I didn't know now stop me just to say hello and tell me stories of great meals they have served.

One about- to- be -empty- nester came and made six for her son who was moving to his own apartment. She was sure that without her largess, he would starve. People have been bringing our food to the Shore, and to older parents. I love hearing these stories.

One customer was at home with her small daughter while hosting a playdate. Remember those? When snack time came she called the girls into the kitchen and pulled out of her oven the Sprinkle Chicken that she had made at Dinnersmith. The girls gushed about how them. "Wow", one said, "You get HOMEMADE chicken nuggets? You're lucky" She was back for more the next day.

We are looking forward to the end of summer. Why? Because even with all the people we met this summer, we know we will be meeting so many more when the school year starts again.

Today in our kitchen we are testing an apple french toast. We found that fresh apples and a hot oven make the kitchen smell like fall. People miss using their ovens and this will be the perfect morning meal when the weather gets a bit cooler.

I hear Sharon and Mary in the kitchen talking about testing a Spaghetti Pie. Can't wait for the research on that one......yummmmm again.
